What is hatha yoga and vinyasa yoga?

Two of the most popular styles of yoga used today are Hatha Yoga, and Vinyasa Yoga.

The word Hatha, when split in to 'ha' and 'tha', means hot and cold, male and female (similar to yin-yang). This style is ideal for new and seasoned students. Due to its' slower pace, it is easier for people to learn the principles, develop muscle strength, postures, and the breathing methods involved in yoga; its allows seasoned students to deepen the poses and experience the discipline, stamina and build muscle control.

Vinyasa yoga is a style of yoga derived from hatha yoga. Vinyasa Yoga is a flowing and faster paced form of yoga than hatha yoga. The asanas are linked together in synchronization with the in-flow and out-flow of the breath. This creates energy and heats the body allowing it to break down fat, expel toxins and deepen the stretch/pose with practice. This form of yoga flows from one pose to anther smoothly like a dance.
